Marisa Cornford (Thornton-Wood) is a pianist, double bassist and composer who specialises in composing for a diverse range of media, including animation, podcasts, games and film. Marisa studied at Chetham's School of Music, Edinburgh University, Mannes College of Music NYC, and the National Film and TV School. She has composed for theatre, including works performed at The Globe Theatre, London. Marisa teaches at the Royal Academy of Music, London and she is an ABRSM examiner.
Marisa received a nomination for a composing award for LAO WAI in the Underwire Film Festival in 2018. The documentary, RAVENS, which she scored, won a Grierson award in November 2019. She was a BAFTA crew member in the 2019-2020 group. She composed the music for THE FIRE NEXT TIME, an animation short, which was nominated for a BAFTA in April 2021. Her music is featured in the BBC Radio 4 podcast series YETI (2023) and it uses her trademark sounds of acoustic instruments with electronics.
